Building Cultural Fluency: Understanding Foreign Cultures & Protocol



Cultural familiarity and flexibility can make a deal, or it can break one — or even more important, it can either show that a foreign company cares about the uniqueness of a country and its people, or it can show that it is either ignorant or authentically appreciative toward them and their history and values. But how do you learn to read a culture? How do you do well enough to not offend, and then eventually become adept enough that customers in your foreign market feel like what you sell or do for them is their own? That when your company speaks, it speaks with that country’s accent and values — without compromising on its own?


This session will look at what culture is, how to read it, how to not mess up when meeting new cultures, and practical methods for using cultural fluency at the interpersonal, company-to-company, and national level.
