In the newly created position of Director of Travel Trade Development at South Coast Plaza, Brian Chuan is responsible for building international trade programs with the focus of continually increasing qualified annual visitation and revenue. Prior to joining South Coast Plaza, Mr. Chuan was a 12+ years veteran as the Director of Tourism Marketing and Development for Macy’s Inc., where he oversaw the organization’s international marketing efforts to drive both in store and online traffic and sales.
Mr. Chuan started his career in the travel and tourism industry as a tour operator with Lion Tours USA, a receptive operator based in Los Angeles. With seven years of experience as a travel planner and buyer, he gained a solid knowledge of inbound tourism, particularly from Asia regions. In 1997, Mr. Chuan transitioned to a travel supplier working for the Marriott Hotel, building on his resources in the industry. Mr. Chuan then joined Planet Hollywood as their Director of Sales, responsible for the national sales and marketing efforts for the themed restaurant chain.
In 2001, Mr. Chuan was the Director of Tourism and launched the grand opening for the Hollywood & Highland project, a prominent mixed use development famed for the Dolby (Kodak) Theatre, along with retail, restaurants and hotel. His diverse tourism experiences encompassed all major segments of the travel industry, combining lodging, dining, shopping and destination marketing.
