Edward Yan Ming Zhu
Mr. Edward Yan Ming Zhu, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Chic Group, has more than 20 years of global business experience as an entrepreneur, financier, supply chain management expert, and multi-industry leader.
Hailed as the ‘Warren Buffett of China’ by Bloomberg Television, Mr. Zhu has driven excellence and a formidable presence across a variety of global industries, ranging from food and agribusiness to medical equipment and fashion apparel. From his notable stint as managing director for Doc Marten’s Chinese subsidiary, Mr. Zhu has proven his mastery of the complex sensitivities in the Chinese consumer market. Under Mr. Zhu’s leadership and strategic vision, the Chic Group transformed from a Shanghai distribution logistics start-up to an international conglomerate with over 10,000 employees and 35 subsidiaries. Today, this modern global enterprise is the unmatched industry leader in China’s citrus fruit export and a corporate partner with Del Monte, Heinz, SPC, Spectrum Brands, and Yum.
In 2012, the Chic Group became the first Chinese private enterprise to establish a joint-partnership with UNESCO under the Biosphere Integrated Rural-Urbanization Program (BIRUP). Sharing their decades-long experience with China’s rural communities, Mr. Zhu and the Chic Group assists UNESCO in optimizing food production and security, as well as biodiversity conservation and financing initiatives, throughout China and the Asia-Pacific.
A highly sought-after speaker, Mr. Zhu was invited to Summer Davos for the third year to lead discussions on “Creating the future economics,” “The future of the rural economy,” “China turning into a nation of consumption” (CCTV), and “The New Growth Compass” (CNBC). Among others, Mr. Zhu delivered notable keynote speeches at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, at the China International Agribusiness Forum, at the Euro-China Forum, and at the Ecological Civilization of Guiyang Conference.
Mr. Zhu is an Honored Executive MBA graduate and frequent guest lecturer from the China European International Business School in Shanghai. In 2012, he was elected as the First Chairman of CEIBS’ Agribusiness Alumni Association, an association of agribusiness elites founded at the Chic Group Headquarters
